Qualifications

About the Institute

Founded by Dr. Greg Popcak in 1999, the Pastoral Solutions Institute is a Catholic pastoral counseling ministry providing pastoral tele-counseling services to Catholic couples, families and individuals worldwide.

In addition to working with the general public, we work closely with dioceses and the hierarchy on various projects supporting the spiritual/emotional well-being of priests and developing training programs in pastoral counseling and family life ministry.

The Pastoral Solutions Institute (CatholicCounselors.com) has an immediate FULL-TIME opening (due to our high level of commitment to ongoing training/formation of our staff we are NOT accepting part-time applications) for a new pastoral tele-counselor* to join our team.

We offer excellent compensation, ongoing training/support, and a close community of faithful professionals to support your ongoing personal and professional growth.

After a comprehensive, initial training period (free), the new pastoral counselor would work from home but serve as part of our integrated team of pastoral counselors and spiritual directors. In addition to working as a pastoral counselor, you would be given the freedom to develop programs or services of interest to you and/or participate in other ministry activities of the Institute. We want to help you use all your gifts to glorify God and build the Church!

As a valued member of our team, you would participate in weekly staffings/trainings and other activities that support professional development and the mission of the Institute.

*NOTE: Pastoral Counseling is a distinct profession from clinical mental health counseling.  Where clinical mental health counseling is focused exclusively on resolving clinical mental health issues, pastoral counseling is concerned with helping clients apply psycho-spiritual interventions to life and relationship problems with the intention of enabling them to live in a manner that is more consistent with their religious faith and values. That said, our Pastoral Counselors are required to be in possession of an independent license in a mental health field so that they can competently distinguish between pastoral and clinical issues and design appropriate, high-level pastoral interventions.

The applicant MUST…

– Have at least a master’s degree in a mental health-related discipline (counseling, clinical soc. work, marriage and family therapy, etc)*

– Be licensed to practice independently in his or her state of residence*.

– Be a faithful, practicing Catholic in good standing in the Church and agree with the Magisterial teachings of the Church especially as related to marriage and family issues, including sexuality and natural family planning.

*PLEASE NOTE: Because pastoral counseling is a ministry and profession that is distinct from clinical mental health counseling, pastoral counselors do not operate under their state license.  Team members will become members and/or certified by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the organization responsible for certifying hospital chaplains and pastoral counselors.  We require licensure for the reasons stated in the “About the Position” section above.

  • Background in Catholic theology (formal training or advanced independent study)

  • Training or study in Theology of the Body

  • Knowledge of attachment theory (children & adults)

  • Familiarity with Dr. Greg Popcak’s books, especially on parenting and marriage
